BOULDER, CO–(eMediaWorld – June 14, 2010) –  InfoPrint Solutions Company, a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh, today announced that Frederic Printing, a Consolidated Graphics (NYSE: CGX) company in Aurora, Colo., has acquired the market-leading InfoPrint 5000 inkjet production system to enable the printing of high-quality print on-demand (POD) textbooks, direct mail pieces and election ballots.

“The InfoPrint 5000 is one of the most versatile and proven production printing platforms we’ve come across for POD applications,” said Chris Greene, president of Frederic Printing. ”With the reliability and quality of this digital printing system, we have strengthened our ability to provide high volumes and quick turns, meeting the growing demands of the education, marketing and government segments.”

The POD solution enabled by the InfoPrint 5000 minimizes the overall cost of ownership by reducing customer spend on warehouse storage and obsolescence. With one of the lowest power consumption of production inkjet systems, compact size, operational efficiency, and use of water-based inks, the InfoPrint 5000 furthers its value through the support of sustainable and cost-effective printing practices.

“The InfoPrint 5000 is a seamless complement to our massive integrated digital footprint, which is the world’s largest. Upon installation, we quickly experienced for ourselves why this printing system is so successful,” said Ric Davis, executive vice president of Operations at Consolidated Graphics. ”This is a cost-effective investment that offers us a broad range of capabilities to help address our customers’ evolving needs, while maintaining the level of quality that they have come to expect from Consolidated Graphics.”

The InfoPrint 5000’s unique piezo-electric drop-on-demand inkjet technology with multi-bit per spot for every object on the page, coupled with its high-quality water-based pigment and dye inks designed to resist fading and smearing, result in optimizing the appearance of the output while minimizing the volume of ink consumed. These Advanced Function Presentation (AFP)-enabled systems support PostScript and PDF, provide accurate, consistent, and device-independent color-rendering, and provide error recovery, auditability, and security benefits.

“InfoPrint Solution’s goal is to enable our customers to deliver on their promises to their clients. A key indicator of our success is that InfoPrint 5000’s worldwide have printed more than four billion production pages,” said George Promis, vice president, Color Solutions and Technology Alliances, InfoPrint. ”Color is complex, and with the extensive experience we’ve gained from supporting our customers around the world, we are well-qualified to help others implement InfoPrint 5000 in their production environment in POD, TransPromo and ADF.”

“For the second year in a row, InfoPrint Solutions is the market share leader in continuous-feed color inkjet systems installed in the United States and Western Europe. In 2009, InfoPrint Solutions held the number one position with over 30 percent market share. Since entering the market in 2007, InfoPrint Solutions has placed 35 percent of the systems installed in the United States and Western Europe. In that same time period, InfoPrint Solutions and its partner, Dainippon Screen, have installed more than half of all continuous-feed color inkjet systems,” according to InfoTrends.*

The InfoPrint 5000 prints at speeds up to 418 feet/minute (128 meters/minute) or 1832 full-color letter-size impressions / minute in 2-up tandem duplex mode using a 20.4″ (520 mm) web with maximum print width of 19.96″ (507 mm).
