Winners 2008 PICA
At the 2008 PICA awards, Wentworth won the Pitman "Best Annual Report" award and the Athens Paper Award for "Most Creative Use of Paper", along with 6 Best of Category Awards, 2 Special Judges Awards, and 7 Awards of Excellence!

We are now a certified Gracol printer! We rip, proof, plate and print to Gracol standards!
The new color is richer and more colorful. Combined with our brand new proofers and CTP, our Gracol certification is an amazing additional service we can provide to our customers.

GRACol standards
As of April 9, 2008, Wentworth Printing now rips, proofs, plates and prints to Gracol standards. Our goal is to become Gracol Certified by April 1, 2009. Meanwhile Wentworth will continue to optimize and develop our internal systems to meet the Gracol standard.
Prior to 2000, when printers used film, proofs were standardized to a SWOP industry standard. After 2000 when the industry went computer-to-plate (CTP), printers relied on the pressroom to provide a "good" press sheet and prepress worked to match the press sheet. Each press, plant-to-plant varied the color of this "good" sheet. Now, with Gracol, printers can return to a solid industry standard made specifically for commercial offset printing. Now, press to press, plant to plant, customers can expect the color to remain consistent.
Many of you know about "SWOP" which stands for "Specifications for Web Offset Publications". SWOP was initiated in 1975 as a response to the printing industry's need for uniform specifications.
GRACoL stands for "General Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography". GRACoL began in 1996 and published it's first standard in 2002. GRACoL was formed to improve graphic arts by reporting the influence and impact of new technologies on commercial offset lithography. The emphasis on Commercial Offset not Web. Basicly it sets a new color standard for commercial offset printers. You may hear the term "G7". G7 refers to the "proof-to-print" process used to hit the GRACoL targets. The process is all about printing good neutral greys from 1% to 99%.
What does Gracol color look like?
The new color is richer and more colorful. It actually has more dot gain in the midtones (like film) to provide full color. The highlights and shadows still show good details since we are CTP and can hold a 1% and 99% dot. Each color (CMYK) has it's own special curve to produce ideal neutral greys. Our proofs look very close to proofs from our sister plants within CGX that have adopted the Gracol standard.

Wentworth won TWO sponsored awards at the 2007 PICA banquet!
The Palmetto GBA "Focused 2006" Annual Report won the [b]Pitman Award[/b] for [b]"Best Annual Report"[/b] and The Alison Group's Brigadoon hard-bound book won the [b]PICA Chairman's Award[/b] for [b]"Most Challenging and Rewarding Entry"[/b]. Both the awards and the winning entries are on display in the lobby. Additionally we were had four Best of Category wins: [b]"Our Favorite Job of the Year"[/b], [b]"Books - Hard Cover"[/b], [b]"Announcements and Invitations (4 or more colors)"[/b], and [b]"Annual Reports (4 or more colors)"[/b].
These are very prestigious awards, and it further proves that Wentworth is literally one of the best printers in the Carolinas!

Angel Tree
For the holiday season, we have set up an angel tree to benefit the Epworth Children's Home and the Gateway Girls. Please visit our front lobby, where we have angels hanging on the Christmas tree. Everyone is welcome to choose a child and be an "angel" and grant the wishes of these children.
Please bring unwrapped presents to our office no later than December 16th.

Sappi North American Printer of the Year
On March 20, 2006, Wentworth Printing won bronze in the Sappi Fine Paper North America Printers of the Year awards celebration. Called from a field of almost 2,000 entries, Wentworth Printing was selected as one of the pre-eminent printers in the General Print category.
The 2006 competition marks the 10th annual celebration of Sappi’s North American Printers of the Year awards.
The Sappi Printers of the Year awards competition recognizes print excellence and innovation for work produced on Sappi papers. Printers may submit entries for any of the eight categories: Annual Reports, Books, Brochures, Calendars, Catalogs, General Print, Magazines, and Printer’s Own Promotions. All entries were judged on overall impact of the piece; degree of difficulty in the printing techniques; and technical excellence. A panel of four judges, selected from recognized print institutions and trade professions, insured the highest possible standards and integrity.

Best of Show in PICA Awards
Wentworth Printing Corporation wins Best of Show in PICA Awards
CHARLOTTE, NC (JANUARY 28, 2006) – The Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc. has announced the winners of the annual PICA Awards competition.
Wentworth Printing Corporation won the xpedx Best of Show award and the Mac Papers award for Best Printing – 51 or more employees. The West Columbia, SC printing company received two Best of Category awards, three Special Judges and two Awards of Excellence.
The winners were announced on January 28 at the 39th annual PICA Awards banquet, held at the Hilton Towers in uptown Charlotte, NC. The PICA Awards, the most prestigious symbol of printing excellence in the Carolinas, is open only to PICA members.
The Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc. (PICA) is a trade association representing the graphic communications industry in North and South Carolina. North Carolina ranks as the 14th largest state print market in the United States with $4.0 billion in sales, 975 total printing establishments and 26,328 employees. South Carolina ranks 31st in the nation with $1.5 billion in sales, 374 establishments and 9,675 employees. Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, it is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2006.
